MSG Troy Messner
Horn

Master Sergeant Troy Messner hails from Lakeland, Florida and began playing the horn at the age of twelve.  Soon after his graduation from high school in 1986, he joined the United States Marine Corps.  After a tour in the Fleet Marine Forces Pacific Band located in Marine Barracks, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, MSG Messner left the Marines to pursue studies in horn performance.  Before and after graduating from the University of South Florida in Tampa, MSG Messner was principal horn with the Imperial Symphony of Lakeland, fourth horn with the Florida West Coast Symphony and fourth horn with the Brevard Symphony.  He substituted with the Naples Philharmonic, the Southwest Florida Symphony and the Orlando Symphony.  He also performed with the touring Broadway shows Miss Saigon, Sunset Blvd, Buskers, Carousel and Beauty and the Beast among others.  In 1998 MSG Messner returned to the Marine Corps, but soon after, joined the United States Military Academy Band in September of 1999.

SSG Nicholas Caluori
Horn

Staff Sergeant Nicholas Caluori is originally from Springfield, Virginia and joined the West Point Band in August of 2006. SSG Caluori holds a Bachelor of Music in Horn Performance from Florida State University, where he studied with William Capps and a Master of Music from Southern Methodist University, where he studied with Greg Hustis. His principal teachers have also included Edwin C. Thayer, Kendall Betts, Kevin Reid, and his father, Marco Caluori, formerly of the U.S. Army Band.

At the age of 15, SSG Caluori won a fellowship with the National Symphony Orchestra and is also the inaugural winner of the International Horn Society Barry Tuckwell Scholarship. In August of 2005, SSG Caluori placed second in the University Division of the International Horn Competition of America. He has also performed with the Dallas, Jacksonville and Tallahassee Symphony Orchestras and had fellowships with the National Repertory Orchestra and National Orchestral Institute.

An active performer in the Tri-State area, SSG Caluori is also Principal Horn of the Hudson Valley Philharmonic and has been featured at regional horn workshops.

SSG Nicole Caluori
Horn

Staff Sergeant Nicole Caluori, a native of Coral Springs, Florida, began her undergraduate studies at Florida State University and completed her Bachelor of Music in horn performance from Southern Methodist University as a student of Gregory Hustis.

Staff Sgt. Caluori has earned several musical and professional accolades. She has spent summers at elite music festivals such as the National Repertory Orchestra, the Tanglewood Music Center and the Sarasota Music Festival. As an orchestral player, Nicole has performed with the New World Symphony in Miami, Florida, Richardson Symphony Orchestra in Dallas, Texas, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and currently subs with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic as well as other regional orchestras in the Tri-State area. Recognized for her solo playing, Nicole was a semi-finalist at the 2005 International Horn Competition of America and won the Eastern Music Festival Concerto Competition the same year. Her principal teachers have also included William Capps, Dwayne Dixon, and Kevin Reid.

SSG Joshua Phillips
Horn

Staff Sergeant Joshua Phillips is originally from Newfoundland, New Jersey and joined the U.S. Military Academy Concert Band in February of 2006.  Staff Sgt. Phillips holds a Bachelor of Music with an Outside Field (B.M.O.) in Multimedia Design from Ithaca College and finished his graduate studies at Northwestern University in the Spring of 2005.  He has studied with Jerry Peel, Alex Shuhan, William Barnewitz and Gail Williams.  Staff Sgt. Phillips has been a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra. He has also appeared with the International Contemporary Ensemble and Rhythm and Brass.
