CW4 Matthew Morse
Associate Bandmaster

Chief Warrant Officer Matthew Morse joined the staff of the United States Military Academy Band in May of 2007 as Associate Bandmaster and director of the Jazz Knights.  Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, Mr. Morse enlisted in the United States Army in 1986 from Bloomington, Minnesota and served two tours each with the 4th Infantry Division Band, Fort Carson, Colorado and the 296th Army Band, Camp Zama, Japan.  During his time in Colorado and Japan, Mr. Morse served as euphonium player, trombonist, drum major, percussionist, bass guitarist, flutist, vocalist, sound reinforcement/recording technician, arranger, Operations Noncommissioned Officer and Administrative Noncommissioned Officer.

In 1997, Mr. Morse was selected for training as a warrant officer bandmaster and attended Warrant Officer Candidate School at Fort Rucker, Alabama and the Army Warrant Officer Bandmaster course at the Army School of Music in Norfolk, Virginia.  As a warrant officer bandmaster, Mr. Morse served as a project officer with the Directorate of Training and Doctrine at the Army School of Music and commanded the 3rd Infantry Division Band at Ft. Stewart, Georgia, the 1st Armored Division Band in Wiesbaden, Germany and the 282nd Army Band at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina.  In April of 2003, while commanding the 1st Armored Division Band, Mr. Morse and the band deployed to Kuwait and Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  The band performed in excess of 300 morale support and ceremonial missions for more than 35,000 Task Force 1st Armored Division Soldiers in and around Baghdad before their return to Germany in July 2004.

Mr. Morse’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (3rd Oak Leaf Cluster), the Army Commendation Medal (4th oak leaf cluster), the Army Achievement Medal (3rd oak leaf cluster), the Army Good Conduct Medal (3rd award), the National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Star, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the NATO Medal for service in the Former Yugoslavia.
