Regimental Brass Quintet The Regimental Brass was founded in November, 1991, by members of the U.S. Military Academy Band. Their first concert consisted of works written specifically for brass quintet. Since then, they have performed diverse styles of music in programs such as Four Centuries of Golden Brass, On the Promenade, Music for Organ and Brass and The Brass Quintet in the 20th Century. As one of several chamber ensembles at the U.S. Military Academy, the group performs throughout the year at official military functions and presents concerts for church, school and civic groups in the tri-state region. In March of 1993, the Regimental Brass performed for the Ninth Presidential Conference on the Ronald Reagan Presidency at Hofstra University and in May of 1994 was featured at the Bergen County, New Jersey Teen Arts Festival. Their first appearance West of the Mississippi River occurred in 1999 when they performed at the Kansas Music Educators Conference in Wichita, Kansas. In February of 2000, they performed at the University of Minnesota, Gustavus Adolphus, St. Olaf, and Bemidji St. University in Minnesota. Upon hearing the regimental Brass at a park dedication sponsored by the National Maritime Historical Society, Berchanal Green, the coordinator wrote, "what the setting called for was music - wonderful music - and they provided that." Though they usually perform as a quintet, the group periodically adds or subtracts musicians allowing them to perform music of diverse instrumentation. MASTER SERGEANT MARTIN TYCE - TROMBONE, is from Rock Springs, Wyoming. He became a member of the USMA Band in 1989 after receiving his bachelor of arts degree in music performance from Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas. Marty has studied with Mr. Joseph Alessi, principal trombonist on the New York Philharmonic and is currently studying with Mr. Matt Ingman, in New York City. He completed a master's degree in counseling from Long Island University, C.W. Post, in 1996. Additionally, Marty is currently an adjunct faculty member at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York, directing the brass and jazz ensembles. SERGEANT FIRST CLASS STEPHEN LUCK - TRUMPET, joined the Military Academy Band in 1984 as a bugler in the band’s field music group, the Hellcats. He is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he studied with the principal trumpet player of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Frank Kaderabek. Originally from Poughkeepsie, New York, SFC Luck has performed in organizations throughout the Hudson Valley, including the Hudson Valley Philharmonic. STAFF SERGEANT CARLA MOEBIUS - TRUMPET, joined the United States Military Academy Band in August of 2007. She received a Bachelor of Music Education from Indiana University, and has held classroom and private teaching positions in Indiana, Illinois and in Washington, D.C. She received her Master of Music in trumpet performance from the University of Maryland where she served as an adjunct faculty member in instrumental education. Staff Sgt. Moebius also served as the administrator for the Maryland Boys Choir and lead singer and trumpeter for Retrospect, a Washington, D.C. based dance/variety band. Her trumpet teachers include Edmund Cord and Chris Gekker. STAFF SERGEANT SCOTT BEAVER - TUBA, joined the U.S. Military Academy Band in May of 2005. Prior to joining the band, Scott was a member of the New Mexico Brass Quintet. He holds an undergraduate degree from Tennessee Tech University, where he studied with R. Winston Morris, and is currently finishing his Master's degree at the University of New Mexico where he studies with Karl Hinterbichler. He is a recent winner of the University of New Mexico Concerto Competition, the Arapahoe Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, as well as the top wind player in the Kingsville Concerto Competition. STAFF SERGEANT NICOLE CALUORI - HORN, a native of Coral Springs, Florida, began her undergraduate studies at Florida State University and completed her Bachelor of Music in horn performance from Southern Methodist University as a student of Gregory Hustis. Staff Sgt. Caluori has earned several musical and professional accolades. She has spent summers at elite music festivals such as the National Repertory Orchestra, the Tanglewood Music Center and the Sarasota Music Festival. As an orchestral player, Nicole has performed with the New World Symphony in Miami, Florida, Richardson Symphony Orchestra in Dallas, Texas, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and currently subs with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic as well as other regional orchestras in the Tri-State area. Recognized for her solo playing, Nicole was a semi-finalist at the 2005 International Horn Competition of America and won the Eastern Music Festival Concerto Competition the same year. Her principal teachers have also included William Capps, Dwayne Dixon, and Kevin Reid.
