Dear Major Weliver:

As a reminder, I am the POC with Turkey as part of the Bicentennial International Program. We last spoke about a month ago At that time I informed you that the American Turkish Council (ATC) was going to recognize and honor West Point during their 21st annual conference to be held in Washington, DC this month.

I am pleased to report to you that the award was presented on Tuesday 19 March at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Washington, DC. Several hundred personnel were in attendance, including the Honorable Marc Grossman,, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs.

The award was presented by General (Ret) Brent Scowcroft, the Chairman of ATC and a member of USMA class of 1947.The award was accepted for West Point by General (Ret) Edward C Meyer, former Chief of Staff US Army and former Chairman of the Association of Graduates. Col (Ret) Preston Hughes read the citation and in addition a letter from the Commander of the Turkish Armed Forces, General Huseyin Kivrikoglu. Two Turkish Cadets currently attending West Point also participated in the ceremony.

Enclosed is a hand painted Turkish tile from ATC, the ATC citation and General Kivrikoglu's letter. Also enclosed is a title plate that can be attached to the presentation box containing the tile.

Regards. Hope you are able to use this.
