BRAZILIAN EMBASSY
OFFICE OF THE MILITARY ATTACHE
3006 MASSACHUSETTS AVENUE, N.W.
WASHINGTON, D.C. 20008
TRANSLATION
Brasília-DF, February 8, 2002
Dear Gen SHNSEKI:
It is my pleasure to inform you that I have already contacted Secretary THOMAS E.
WHITE to acknowledge receipt of his correspondence, regarding the bicentennial of the
founding of the U.S. Military Academy.
This important celebration points out the great work accomplished by West Point. Being
the birthplace of heroes, the Academy is tightly bonded to the magnitude and the history
of your Army. As time goes by, this remarkable establishment has become a role model
of the effectiveness in the development of military leadership. The outstanding reputation
it enjoys among similar institutions is consolidated not only due to its principles and
technical prowess, but also to the values of Duty, Honor and Country it emphasizes.
On behalf of the Brazilian Army and myself, I would like to take this opportunity to
salute the US Army and, in particular, its Military Academy, for this significant
celebration, confident that the existing bonds of friendship between our Forces and our
Countries will grow even stronger.
In order to try attending some of the commemorative events, I shall be seeking contacts,
and additional information, through my staff.
Sincerely yours,
General Gleuber Vieira
Commander of the Brazilian Army
To His Excellency
Gen ERIK K. SHINSEKI
Chief of Staff
