The Music Ministry at Most
Holy Trinity Chapel leads worship within the liturgical norms of the
Roman Catholic Church, with the support of our Pastor and clergy,
and our talented parishioners. Singers and instrumentalists are
ALWAYS welcome to join us in the Folk Group or the Choir Loft.
We are one Parish with many
needs and numerous opportunities to serve! The various ensembles
that support each Mass work together during Feasts and Festivals -
so that there is one united Music Ministry. Encourage anyone you
know that likes to sing, or plays an instrument to consider joining
one or more of our Chapel's choirs!
There is a Folk
Group led by COL Andy Glen that supports the Saturday 1715
Mass. That group meets at 1830 each Saturday to go over the hymns
and psalm setting, and anything else that is necessary for that
week, or weeks to come.
The Sunday 0900 Mass is led
by a Family Choir and organ. They meet Sundays at
0830 during the academic year to warm up. Before large celebrations
and for special occasions, Thursday rehearsals are called at 1900.
Singers of all ages (cadets, too!) are encouraged to join this
wonderful group!
Sunday at 1100 the
Cadet Catholic Choir leads the musical portions of worship
with members of the Pocket Orchestra (mostly cadets, but others are
welcome!) and organ. Youth and Teen members of the parish also
provide crucial leadership - particularly when the Cadets are not on
post. Warm up is at 1030. The Cadet Catholic Choir rehearses
Tuesdays at 1915 in the Cloister Room.
The Youth and Teens are
presently aiming to start rehearsals so they can build a
Handbell Choir, and have more personalized instruction in
voice production, sight reading, and choral technique. Those
rehearsals will be scheduled on Thursday afternoons. Parents of
children, grades 3-7 are urged to speak with our Director of Music,
Meredith Baker, at x. 3544 to help get this ministry working!
Director of Music,
Meredith Elaine Baker, has guided a vibrant Music Ministry
at Most Holy Trinity Chapel since 1991. Her Youth Choirs have
presented numerous Jazz Cantatas, and sung and rung handbells for
many years. The Cadet Catholic Choir has enjoyed the opportunity of
visiting parishes four times per year, spreading the Good News
through song all over the Metropolitan and New England areas. The
Cadet Choir has sung for two Popes (in '96 and '08) and many
archbishops and cardinals in the past years. The Family Choir joined
with the Cadet Choir at Carnegie Hall in November of 2008, to sing
Mahler's 8th Symphony, the "Symphony of Thousands."
Meredith is an avid golfer,
and serves as vice-president of the West Point Ladies' Golf Club as
well as president of the Women's Hudson River Golf Association.
Miss Baker is District
Convener of the Metropolitan and European Chapters of the American
Guild of Organists. She holds two professional certificates
awarded through examination, that of Choir Master (ChM) and Fellow
(FAGO). She has been a member of the New York Archdiocese Music
Commission since 1993. She is also a member of the American Choral
Directors Association (ACDA).
Miss Baker is a Professor
on the adjunct and artist faculties of Nassau Community College
(Garden City, Long Island), having taught there since 1978. She is
also Conductor of the Long Island Choral Society (www.LICS.org)
at the Cathedral of the Incarnation, since 1979.
She trained on piano since
age three, organ since age nine, flute, violin, guitar and bassoon.
She holds a BM and MA from Queens College, CUNY, and a professional
studies certificate in Church Music from Manhattan School of Music.
She has done doctoral studies at Manhattan School of Music, and
studied with John Rutter at Clare College, Cambridge.
Miss Baker has been music
director for many musicals since high school days: Hello Dolly,
Annie Get your Gun, and has played in pit orchestras for My Fair
Lady, Fantastiks, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,
Dames at Sea, and more.
Meredith loves the
adventure of serving at West Point, and looks forward to working
with even more members of the community through the music ministry.
