THE POST CHAPEL
The Post Chapel in Colonial or Georgian architecture is modified
from the standard World War II cantonment chapel at many Army posts. It was constructed in
1943 to provide a chapel for Protestant personnel of the
garrison. Today a Protestant and Gospel congregation worship in the chapel. The windows (by Rambusch) are designed to harmonize with the
architecture and tell part of the history of religion in America. Among the interesting
themes are "The Four Chaplains" depicting the loss of the USS Dorchester in
World War II where four US Army Chaplains gave their places in life boats that others
might be saved. The pipe organ, by Aeolian-Skinner, was donated to the Academy by
NBC in 1950 and rebuilt as a church organ.
Services in the Post Chapel include a Protestant service at 10:30 a.m. and a Gospel service at 12:30 p.m. Children's programs and child watch care are available at all services.
