Concert Band concert scheduled
The USMA Concert Band will present "An American Celebration Concert," Saturday at the Trophy Point Amphitheater. The band will be premiering Thomas Duffy’s work "Overture 1776," complete with cannon and fireworks, written especially for the academy’s bicentennial. The Hellcats sound retreat at 6 p.m.; Jazz Knights follow at 6:30 p.m. and the Concert Band begins at 8 p.m. Rain date is Sunday. The concert is free and open to the public.

Hospital closings announced
KACH will be closed today and Monday for the federal holiday. All outpatient clinics, ancillary services and the pharmacy will be closed. The emergency room will remain open.

Child-care during football home games
West Point Child Development Center will provide child-care services for the community on home football game Saturdays. Hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for games starting at 1 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for games starting at noon. Patrons need to make reservations for each game separately no later than close of business on the dates listed. Call 938-4458 to register.

Quarterback luncheons return
The first quarterback luncheon, a pep rally for that week’s football game, is Thursday. The food line opens at 11:30 a.m. and the luncheon starts at noon. There will be a question-and-answer period with the coach and comments from the players.

Season tickets for all luncheons are available or they can be purchased individually week-to-week. Luncheons are held at the West Point Club except for Nov. 1 (Air Force) and Nov. 29 (Navy), which will be held at Eisenhower Hall.

Protestant Sunday School information
Protestant Sunday School will start Sept. 9 at 9 a.m. on the third floor of Thayer Hall for ages three to adult. Classes are available for the entire family. For more information, call Chaplain Cynthia Lindenmeyer at 938-4106.

Car seat safety checks offered
The West Point Child Development Services and USAA are sponsoring a free child car seat installation check Sept. 22, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the PX parking lot. The program is open to all military and civilian families in the USMA community.

Each seat will be checked by a certified technician and should take about 30 minutes to complete. The check will assess the seat’s installation and suitability for both the vehicle and the child, based on the child’s weight, height and age, therefore, bring your child along!

The check is by appointment only and they can be made through Thursday at 938-2092. A 24-hour notification of cancellations would be appreciated.

SAT review course at O’Neill
Princeton Review will conduct a prep course at O’Neill High School for the Oct. 23 SAT. An informational meeting is scheduled Thursday with a free assessment test Sept. 8. Call principal Lou Trombetta at 446-4914, ext. 232.

Kennel specials offered
Morgan Farm kennel is offering a back-to-school boarding special for the months of September and October -- get three days of boarding for your dog or cat and pay for only two. Grand opening at golf range
The West Point golf club will hold its driving range grand opening Sept. 9, noon to 4 p.m. A free instructional clinic given by West Point professional Lew Beck is offered noon to 12:45 p.m. From 1 to 4 p.m., there will be a closest-to-the-pin contest and a long-drive contest with prizes for the winners and runner-ups. The first 280 contest participants get a free soda and there is no cost to participate. Call the golf course for more information at 938-2435.

New phone number
The Exceptional Family Member Program located at Keller Hospital, Primary Care Clinic, has a new phone number to call for assistance. The program contact is Laurina Goldstein and she can be reached Mon. through Fri., 7:30 to 11 a.m. or by appointment at (845) 938-6881.

Swing dance classes to start
Swing dance classes start Tuesday through Dec. 11 at the West Point Middle School. Lessons will be held from 6:30 to 7 p.m. each Tuesday and dancing follows from 7 to 8:30 p.m. No partners are needed to participate and the classes are free and open to the entire community. Commissary information
The West Point Commissary will be closed on Tuesday, in observance of Labor Day.

In addition, a huge case-lot sale is planned Sept. 7 and 9. Watch for more details on the sale or call the commissary for information at 938-3457.

Most Holy Trinity outdoor Mass and picnic
Most Holy Trinity Chapel will host an outdoor Mass followed by a parish picnic Sept. 9 at Camp Buckner. The Mass is at noon. Parishoners with last names A-M are asked to bring deserts, N-Z to bring a side dish. Participants should also bring chairs or a blanket to sit on. Buses for cadets will leave from the Supe’s box at 11 a.m. and return starting at 1:30 p.m. Cadets -- just bring yourselves.

Red Cross volunteers to deliver packets
Volunteers from the American Red Cross will be delivering Disaster Preparedness Packets to all West Point quarters beginning Sept. 10. Packets include emergency preparation checklists, brochures on planning for specific disasters/emergencies and helping children and families to cope and recover. MCCM extends invitation
The Military Council of Catholic Women would like to invite all women to their 1st Friday Liturgy and Program, Thursday at the Most Holy Trinity Chapel starting at 7 p.m. The program features Peter Redpath, professor at St. John’s Univeristy, who will discuss "Parents, Education and the Church." Refreshments follow. Come early at 6:30 p.m. to pray.

Youth clubs seek members
The Torch Club, for grades 6 to 8, will hold its first meeting Sept. 13 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Join the club and enjoy free pizza, parties, trips, leadership and more.

The Keystone Club is for grades 9-12 and will also meet for the first time this year Sept. 13 at 5 p.m. Keystone members are active in community projects, leadership development, dances and parties.

Cyber-survival skills offered
The Youth Services has developed an orientation class to address the concerns of safe internet use. This orientation is a prerequisite for open recreation access to the internet at the computer lab. Youth sports, program registrations
Registration are currently being accepted in bldg. 500 weekdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for youth sports and instructional programs. Shot and health records are required. Call 938-3727 to find out more.

AFTB classes to start

Moms to start meeting
Moms In Touch, International for O’Neill High School will start Sept. 13. The purpose of Moms in Touch is to intercede for children through prayer and to pray that the schools are guided by Biblical values and high moral standards. Membership appreciation night at Club
