A week after meeting the NCAA automatic qualifying time in the mile run, junior distance runner Clay Schwabe met the provisional standard in the 3000-meter run to highlight the Army mens performance at the two-day non-scoring Penn State National Track & Field Invitational at the PSU Multi-Sport Athletic Complex.
Freshman Anna Diko wrote the headlines for the women with her school-record mark in the pole vault. One week after clearing10 feet - 10 inches to tie the academy record, Diko cleared 11 feet - 5 3/4 inches to finish eighth and establish a new Army record.
Schwabe ran an 8:05.63 provisional qualifying time in the 3000m for a fourth place finish in a race that included seven NCAA qualifiers. Senior John Ruch at shot put and the mile relay team also met the IC4A qualifying time along with sophomores John Dreher and Eric Motzenbecker in the 800m and the mile run, respectively.
Ruch placed seventh in the shot put with his toss of 53 feet-11 inches and the mile relay team of freshman Trevor Hopper, junior Greg Londo, senior Simon McKenzie and junior Devon Capps combined for a time of 3:17.26 to place 13th.
Senior Emily Potter registered a personal best time of 17:58.87 to place ninth in the 5000m, sophomore Lauren Bolte was fourth in the pentathlon (3068 points), seniors Carlys Romano was eighth in the shot (44-7) and Angela Boyle finished 23rd in the 35-lbs. weight throw (45-3 1/2).
The mens and womens track & field teams will compete at the Yale Invitational Saturday in New Haven, Conn.
