Museum of Hudson Highlands program highlights

The next session of the After-School Program Pathfinders, geared for grades kindergarten through second, begins March 6 and runs until April 10. The program is held Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

Native American Ways is the theme of session 2. Participants will learn about Native people and their culture. Traditional games, crafts, music, food preparation and social dancing are all planned. To find out more or to register, call 534-5506.

Generation: An Eclectic Exhibiton with art works by Susan Silverman Fink, Elijah Silverman and Ruth Linden Silverman, is on exhibit in the Gallery at Kenridge Farm through March 4. Gallery hours are Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. or by appointment.

The Nature Shop at the boulevard location is now featuring many new items including books, hand-made glass ornaments with the museum logo, candle holders and seasonal gifts. The shop is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Members receive a 15 percent discount.

Volunteers are needed. The museum is looking for individuals to help out with a variety of activities. If you can spare a few hours to work in the office, in the outdoors, at the gift shop or on special events, call the staff at 534-5506.

Coming in March:

Froggy went a courtin’, March 17, 10 a.m., Kenridge Farm location. It may be cold and slushy out but some frog species are warming up because the mating season is arriving. Participants will search the wetlands for eggs and adults.

Bat Talk, March 24, 10 a.m., boulevard location. Bats are almost everywhere, yet people still don’t know much about them. A slide show and discussion are planned along with a new bat exhibit "Nature’s Bug Zappers." Participants will also get a chance to view a colony of Carollia bats -- the newest members of the permanent live collection.

These two programs are part of the Families and Adults Natural History Series.
