Cadets 1st Class Tom McMurtrie (left) and Fred Schwark carry the 'Nininger Chest,' presented to the academy by retired Maj. James R. Martin. The chest belonged to 2nd Lt. Alexander "Sandy" Nininger, for whom Nininger Hall was named. A 1942 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy, Nininger received the Medal of Honor for his actions on Bataan in the philippines during the early days of World War II. The carbved mahogany chest, which has been completely refinished, will be kept on display in Nininger Hall.
