Sacred Heart received goals from five players and goalie Eddy Ferhi stopped 35 shots in the Pioneers 5-2 victory over Army at sold-out Tate Rink Saturday night.
Leading 2-1 midway through the second period, Sacred Hearts Mike Reagan scored on the power play and early in the third period Chuck Metcalfe one-timed a feed from Les Hrapchack to open up a three-goal lead. Army cut it to 4-2 on senior Mike Fairmans team-leading 14th goal of the season, but Peter McRae iced it with a shorthanded, empty-net goal with 8.7 seconds to play.
Army outshot the Pioneers 37-27, including 15-7 in the third period, but Ferhi was solid in beating the Black Knights for the second time this season.
Paul Sposito and Martin Paquet scored in the first period to give Sacred Heart a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. Sophomore Nic Serre cut it to 2-1 with a breakaway goal at 3:38 of the second period. Junior defenseman Eric Joyce angled a pass off the boards to a wide open Serre, who raced in and wristed a shot just under the crossbar.
Paquet had a goal and an assist before leaving the game with an injury at 6:53 of the third period. McRae also had a goal and an assist, while Lloyd Tennant had two assists. Army junior Tim Fisher was credited with an assist on Fairmans goal, extending his point-scoring streak to six games.
Sacred Heart had only three power-play tries but scored on two of them, while Army was 1-for-7 with a man advantage. Junior goalie Scott Hamilton made 22 saves for the Black Knights.

Army senior center K.C. Finnegan has been named the MAACHockey League "Co-Player of the Week" for the week ending Jan. 28, becoming the first Black Knight to garner that honor this season.
Finnegan had three goals and one assist in Armys 2-1 week. He was the hero of the Black Knights 2-1 victory over Quinnipiac last Tuesday when he scored with just 8.6 seconds remaining in sudden-death overtime. Three nights later he rescued Army from an early 2-0 deficit against Canisius, scoring twice in the opening period in a game eventually won by the Black Knights 4-3. Finnegan scored once on the power play, then tallied again on a shorthanded breakaway to even the score at 2-2 in the opening period. He also assisted on Armys third goal, which tied the game again at 3-3 late in the second period.
For the season Finnegan has six goals and three assists and ranks seventh on the team with nine points.
Finnegan joins freshman Chris MacLeod, last weeks MAAC "Rookie of the Week," and junior Scott Hamilton, the Nov. 27 "Goalie of the Week," among the Army players honored by the conference this season.
