Armys starting guards junior Chris Spatola and freshman J.P. Spatola pulled off a Patriot League first Monday by sweeping the leagues mens hardwood honors as Chris was named Player of the Week and J.P. earned Rookie of the Week.
Never before in the 10-plus years of Patriot League basketball competition have brothers won awards in the same week. Chris Player of the Week plaudit was his second of the season (the first came on Dec. 11) while J.P. earned his third Rookie of the Week citation (the others came on Nov. 20 and Dec. 18). In addition, Chris was rewarded for his efforts Monday by being named the Army Athletic Associations Athlete of the Week.
Chris averaged 36.0 ppg in Armys two outings last week. He upped his career high to 29 points in a 95-89 mid-week loss to Navy but followed that with a record-setting 43-point explosion against Lafayette in Easton, Pa., Saturday when Army defeated the Leopards 104-103 in overtime.
J.P. reached double figures in both contests last week -- scoring 11 points versus Navy and chipping in with 14 at Lafayette -- for the first successive double-digit outings of his young career. He also averaged 3.5 apg and 6.0 rpg. The newcomer pulled down a career-high seven rebounds in the loss to Navy.

Chris, who has scored in double figures in his last five outings and in 14 of 18 games this season, is averaging 17.1 ppg. He lists 26th on Armys career scoring chart and has made at least one three-pointer in 64 of his 73 career appearances.
J.P., who has started each of the first 18 games in his college career, leads the squad in assists (3.39 apg) and is fourth in scoring (8.1 ppg).
