Changes coming for cadet-area parking

Cadet-area parking procedures here are set to change Tuesday and, according to U.S. Corps of Cadets officials, those changes should increase safety.

Under the new policy, no vehicles are authorized to park inside cadet formation areas unless issued an exception by USCC. Such exceptions might be for special events, during leave periods and for staging of personal-property shipments.

According to the USMA Provost Marshal’s office, vehicles parked illegally inside the cadet area will be subject to wheel-booting or towing. Government vehicles will be towed to the motor pool.

To avoid towing or booting, employees should use assigned parking spots and display assigned parking passes in vehicle windshields.

Employees need to submit a memorandum through USCC S4 Engineer Branch for the chief of staff if they want to maintain -- or request -- an assigned parking spot, officials added.

"Maintenance personnel will be issued a set number of cadet-area access passes for official use," they said. "However, it is the agency’s responsibility to manage those passes and ensure the drivers have them prior to departing for the cadet area."

Maintenance personnel will also be required to have a work order stating the nature of their business within the cadet area and coordinate through the USCC Engineer Branch, officials added. If no numbered parking spots are available, the driver will have to find parking outside the cadet area.

This policy applies to maintenance personnel working for other agencies at the academy, officials said. The policy for vendors and contractors is different.

Vendors and contractors who cannot find an assigned spot to park in should call the USCC Engineer Branch, S4, SGS or the central guard room and give an estimated time they need to be in the cadet area, officials said.

"Chains will be in place to deny access to the cadet area," they added. "Central guard room personnel will have to be contacted by vendors and contractors who can’t find parking spaces but need access."

Anyone with questions should contact either Peter Pecoraro at 938-2214 or Capt. Stacey Pittman at 938-6921.
