Volunteers needed for Vacation Bible School Vacation Bible School will be held July 9-13 at the West Point Elementary School. There is a need for teen crew leaders and nursery help volunteers. If interested, call Barbara Furner at 446-3578. VBS registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Space is limited. You can register after services July 1 or by calling the Chapel Office at 938-2003/3504. Fire hydrant flushing/gutter cleaning The water department will continue flushing fire hydrants throughout the post and in the housing areas through June. During flushing, high velocities in the water mains may create colored water in the faucets. This water is not suitable for washing clothes because staining will result. Although the water is considered safe, it is not recommended for drinking or cooking due to the discoloration, which takes about two hours to clear up. Some quarters/buildings may experience low water pressure, which will also become normal in about two hours. For more information, call Greg Jones at 938-2109. Additionally, DHPW crews have started cleaning the gutters in the housing areas. Crews have been instructed to notify residents who are at home that they will be working at their quarters. Parking for R-Day outlined The upper parking lot and stage loading areas will be closed June 28 and 29 from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. for R-Day rehearsals. The upper, middle and lower parking lots and the stage loading areas are closed from 10 p.m. July 1 to 3 p.m. July 2. Parking under Eisenhower Hall will be for VIPs and handicapped only. Civilian and government vehicles will be required to park elsewhere and use of shuttle busses is encouraged. Supervisors should allow for additional travel time to and from the work areas affected. New civilian personnel tool ROAR is a new tool available to Northeast Region job applicants who have submitted a resume within the past four months. ROAR stands for Resumix Online Applicant Response and it allows you to check the staus of jobs for which you have self-nominated. To access this new tool, go to the Northeast Region Homepage, click on tools and then on ROAR. You can also view and edit your resume. Typically, your resume will be evaluated after the closing date of the announcement(s). The status will be posted as soon as it is rated, which will take a few days. If you do not see an announcement listed for which you have applied, it has not yet been rated, so check back at a later date. USMA Band announces reunion concert The U.S. Military Academy Band welcomes its alumni for the annual Reunion Concert Sunday at the Trophy Point Amphitheater. The Jazz Knights will open the performance at 7 p.m. followed by the Concert Band and Hellcats at 8 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. For concert information, cancellations and updates, call the bands hotline at 938-2617. Welcome party for Class of 2005 Vision 2002, a Town of Highlands community group, will sponsor a "Welcome Class of 2005" party for cadet candidates and parents July 1 from 2 to 4 p.m. on the front lawn of the Holy Innocents Church, Main Street, Highland Falls. All are invited to attend. Sightings of deer fawns Female deer are giving birth at this time of year and fawns are a common sight. USMA residents and personnel may come across a fawn and not see an adult around. A mother deer leavers her fawn(s) unattended for several hours at a time during the first two weeks after birth, returning only to nurse them. Fawns are unable to follow their mothers during these first two weeks so spend most of their time bedded down. Bedded fawns are not abandoned and do not need to be rescued by people. You should not approach or handle these fawns. Your scent trail could lead dogs or coyotes to the fawns, resulting in possible injury to them or even death. For more information, call the USMA wildlife biologist at 938-3857. Preschool registration open Registration for school year 2001-2002 preschool classes at the West Point Elementray School are now open. This years enrollment will be capped at 72 students with two morning and two afternoon sessions. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis. A waiting list will be maintained; openings, as they become available, will be filled from the list. Questions should be directed to Phyllis Caputo at 938-3506. TRICARE pharmacy policy Did you know that if the pharmacy at Keller cannot fill a prescription for an active-duty servicemember, that servicemember can get the prescription filled at a TRICARE network pharmacy without paying a copay? Pick up a Pharmacare card from the Health Benefits Advisors at KACH and present it along with your ID card when you must use a network pharmacy. For a list of these pharmacies, visit www.sierramilitary.com. R-Day volunteers needed Volunteers are needed to provide support for the Reception Day in-processing of new cadets for the Class of 2005.
