The West Point Juniors lacrosse club, a Youth Services team made up of boys from the West Point, Highland Falls and Fort Montgomery areas and organized into an age-group developmental program, has finished its spring season.

This year’s team played as a 15-and-under travel team which allowed them to play high school freshman and junior teams from the surrounding area. As a result, the Juniors played the toughest schedule in recent history with opponents such as Kingston modified, Tuxedo Park School, Trinity Pawling and Valley Central JVs. The Juniors compiled a 7-2 record, including a first-ever win over the Suffolk County All-Stars Vail Tournament team and wins over rival Kingston.

Led by goalie Tim Scott, the defense of Matt Pederson, Derrick Todd, Billy Coffee, Jerome D’Orogimont and Mike Lavell allowed only 31 goals. Alex Hokenson stepped in to fill the void left by the loss of defensive stalwart Sam Upperman. Scott had 83 recorded saves.

Midfielders Joe Diange, Chris Russell, Steve Dwyer, T.H. Standridge and Eric Hague accounted for more than 26 goals. They were supported by Ray Todd, Blake Luebker, Mike Slapp, Jason McIntyre and Bryan Smith.

The team’s offense was led by attackmen Andrew Evans (18 g/18 asst.), Zack Freeman (10 g/8 asst.), Sean Snook (5 g/5 asst.), Josh Jones (6 g/4 asst.), Rikar Knowles (2g) and Evan Ollivant (1 asst.). The team outscored its opponents 67-31.

Evans was selected to the Hudson Valley U-15 All-Star Team, which will play in the U.S. Youth Lacrosse Festival at the University of Massachusetts June 29-30. Evans has been with the West Point Juniors for seven years and is the only person from Orange, Dutchess or Putnam Counties to make the year’s all-star team.
