Junior Arnie Albornoz prepares to serve. He was the lone Army representative to make it into the final day of singles action at the Omni Hotels East Regional tournament Oct. 26 through Sunday.

Junior Arnie Albornoz sustained momentum to make it to the final day of men’s tennis action at the Omni Hotels East Regional tournament where he competed in both singles and doubles events. The event was held at Princeton, N.J., Oct. 26 through Sunday.

Albornoz’s singles matches had him pitted against Columbia’s Pavle Jefferson and Yale’s David Goldman in the early rounds. He defeated both in two sets to advance to the finals Sunday where he was victorious over Virginia Tech’s Stephanie Rod 6-3,7-5 before falling to ninth-seed Adam Marchette of West Virginia 6-4, 7-6(4).

While moving his way through singles competitors, Albornoz was also competing in doubles with sophomore brother, Rafael.

The Albornoz duo defeated the Monmouth team of Artie Gilak and Chad Long 8-2 the first day then faced Columbia’s Marc Grae and Jefferson Saturday, handing them an 8-6 loss.

The brothers met defeat at the hands of Virgina Tech’s David Emery and Rod 8-3 in the doubles final Sunday.

Army will remain idle until late January when they resume their indoor tennis schedule with a contest against St. Bonaventure.
