Goldstein, Marinos take top honors
By Sherry Cashman
Cadet Equestrian Coach
The All Region Horse Show held at Briarwood Farm in New Jersey resulted in two of Army’s open riders taking top honors for the day.
Senior Amanda Goldstein and freshman Jared Marinos finished as high point rider and reserve high point rider, respectively, for their outstanding performances in the open division.
Goldstein proved her equestrian skills with two stellar rides and took the blue ribbon for first place in both open equitation on the flat and open equitation over fences.
Marinos also won his division of open equitation over fences and was second in open flat.
With this competition, Goldstein currently holds first place and Marinos, second, in the race for the Cacchione Cup. The rider accumulating the most points over the course of the season takes that honor and earns a guaranteed trip to compete at Nationals. Goldstein is hoping to make this her third trip to Nationals, an accomplishment never before seen from an Army Equestrian. Having two riders sitting in such a comfortable position for the Cacchione Cup is also a first for this team.
After four English shows, the team has two wins, a second and a third place finish. The team competes against fifteen colleges at each show. Army is in second place overall at this point in the season. Other winners from last week include sophomores Jade Barney and Katherine Mendelson in novice fences and classmate Lauren Colonna in walk/trot.
