Commissary hours for Thanksgiving
The West Point commissary will be closed Thursday and Friday to observe Thanksgiving. Please note the changes.

Dance class announced
A new class offering contemporary dance to boys in first- through fourth-grade is being offered at the Youth Center. Call Maryanne at 938-8897 for details.

Santa suits for rent
Youth Services will be taking reservations for Santa suit rentals starting Monday. Suits will be available from Monday until Christmas. Call Julie Vanderberg at 938-8625 for details.

Story hour offered
The West Point post library offers preschool story hour every Tuesday through Dec. 4 at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. for all West Point community children ages three to five. Pre-registration is required and can be done by calling 938-2974 or visiting the library in bldg. 622.

Christmas wreaths for sale
Confirmation candidates of Most Holy Trinity Chapel are selling Christmas wreaths to help feed families in need this holiday season. Twenty-two inch Maine balsam wreaths will be available by Dec. 1. For price information or to place your order, call 446-5907 or e-mail your name and phone number to wreathproject@aol.com.

Holiday hours for vehicle registration
The vehicle registration office at the Provost Marshal’s Office will be closed Thursday, Friday and Dec. 24 and 31 for the holidays.

Bicentennial photo exhibit to open
The Bicentennial photo exhibit will be located on the sixth level of Eisenhower Hall through the end of January.

Post exchange information
The West Point PX will be selling live Christmas trees and wreaths starting Friday in the garden shop.

For shopping convenience, the following are the extended hours of operation:
Friday, Saturday -- 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Hours effective Dec. 10-23:
Monday-Saturday -- 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Sunday -- 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Dec. 24 -- 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Dec. 31 -- 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Jan. 1 -- 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"Nutcracker" to be performed
The Orange County Ballet Theater’s 34th Anniversary production of Tchaikovsky’s classical holiday ballet, "The Nutcracker" will take place at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 15 and 16 on the stage of Washingtonville High School.

All seats are reserved. Tickets can be obtained by calling the Orange County Ballet Theater after 3:30 p.m. at 562-6750.

AER scholarships
As a secondary mission, Army Emergency Relief helps families with the costs, for dependent children, of post secondary undergraduate level education, vocational training and preparation for acceptance by service academies. For academic year 2001-2002, 1885 individuals received scholarships that totaled $2,323,800.

Holiday hours at Arvin
The following are the holiday hours for Arvin Cadet Physical Development Center:
Today: 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Thursday: CLOSED
Friday and Saturday: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Sunday: 9:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Silent auction to he held
The 4 Paws Humane Society of Highland Falls/Fort Montgomery is having a silent auction fund raiser Dec. 2 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Highland Falls. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. and bidding starts at 1 p.m. Entrance fee includes refreshments. All money raised goes directly to benefit the stray and homeless animals of the community. Red Cross calls for volunteers
The September 11 disaster is still creating a need for Red Cross volunteers. Especially needed are volunteers at the respite centers in New York City, and people to assemble gift bags at the warehouse in Seacaucus, N.J. Call the West Point installation volunteer coordinator at 938-3655 for more information including specific positions, shifts and locations.

Additional date for Christmas parties
The West Point Club has added a second date for your organization’s holiday party. Avoid the hassles by having your party at the club Dec. 15. Call 446-5545 for complete details.

DHPW closures
The Self-Help Center will be closed Thursday through Sunday for the Thanksgiving holiday. Normal hours will resume Monday.

The Service Order Desk will be closed Thursday and Friday. Emergency service orders only should be phoned into the emergency desk at 938-2317. Routine matters should be held until Monday.

MOMS Club offers gift wrapping
The MOMS Club will be wrapping gifts in the post exchange mall on the following dates:
Dec. 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, 16, 22 and 23 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Any other organizations wanting to participate in this type of activity should call Cyndee Marte at 446-5446, ext. 106.

Crafts Fair benefit scheduled
The West Point Women’s Club Craft Fair originally scheduled in October was cancelled due to the death of a community member, Ryan Bruzgulis. A Craft Fair has been rescheduled for Dec. 8 and will serve as a benefit in memory of Ryan. It will be held at the West Point Elementary School from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. All proceeds from vendor table fees, admission fees and bake sales will go to the Bruzgulis family.

Rod and Gun Club meeting scheduled
An organizational meeting for the West Point Rod and Gun Club will be held Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. in Bartlett Hall, Room 412. All interested members of the community are welcome to attend.

Season ski pass sales
Season ski passes will go on sale Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m. starting Dec. 10 at the ski rental building at the ski slope. Season ski rentals and ski-school lesson registrations will also be accepted. Call 938-3726 for more information.

Cultural adaptation class

Army Community Service offers classes for foreign-born spouses to teach English as a second language, joining Army life and culture, educational resources and other helpful adjustment skills. Classes are held every second and fourth Thursday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in Bldg. 622. Call 938-2519 to find out more.
