Cadets win Operations research awards

Six cadets from the U.S. Military Academy Department of Systems Engineering were presented with "Best Presentation" awards at the 2001 Conference of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences. The conference was held November 3 - 7 in Miami Beach, Fla.

Cadet 1st Class Luke Wittmer took first place in the Undergraduate Operations Research Topics category with his presentation entitled "A Base Camp Design Methodology for Operations other than War." Second place was awarded to Cadets 1st Class Jeff Lau and Joe Rhyne for their talk on "Janus Simulation of Design Alternatives for the U.S. Army’s Reconnaissance, Surveillance and Target Acquisition Squadron." Cadets 1st Class Cody Beck, Kevin Johnson and Rob Newbill shared third place with their work on "Systems Dynamics for Objective Force Analysis."

"These awards are a testament to the hard work the cadets have put forth in projects that will truly make a difference to the Army," said INFORMS officer-in-charge Maj. John Willis.
