New Protestant service offered WPWC event postponed Crystal Bingo takes place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the West Point Club. It is open to all West Point community members. Education center closure announced West Point’s Army Education Center will be closed today for an administrative function. Commissary will not close Tuesday It was announced in the Jan. 11 Pointer View that the commissary would be closed Tuesday to observe the Martin Luther King holiday. needs volunteers Delegates are also needed. Interested individuals who live or work at West Point are welcome as delegates or welcome to submit an issue. Topics to be discussed include employment and transition, children and youth, community services, single soldier support, health care, teens, DoD civilians and housing and public works. AFAP seeks teens with opinions Teens from throughout the community are needed to participate in the Army Family Action Plan Teen Symposium scheduled Feb. 9 from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Youth Center. Overseas briefings announced The next overseas briefings will be held Tuesday in Bldg. 622 as follows: Destination Korea -- 1:30 to 3 p.m. Destination Germany -- 3 to 4:20 p.m. Reservations are required. Mandatory pre-separation counseling If you are a soldier transitioning from the military, it is mandatory to attend pre-separation counseling with the transition assistance program here -- a localized version of ACAP. The rule of thumb is to schedule your counseling 180 days in advance of your separation/retirement date. Pre-separation counseling is scheduled for the second and fourth Tuesday of each month starting Jan. 29 at 2 p.m. in Bldg. 622. Call 938-5658 to schedule a date of your choice. MOMS Club January information The following is a list of activities scheduled this month for MOMS Club members and those interested in joining: Thursday: Kid’s Day Out -- The Hudson Valley Children’s Museum in the Nanuet Mall, 10 a.m. to noon or meet at the PX at 9 a.m. to carpool. Sunday school classes resume Protestant Sunday School for ages three to adult has resumed on the third floor of Thayer Hall starting at 9 a.m. A nursery is provided and parking is available on Thayer Roof to vehicles with proper DoD decals. Four adult classes are being offered -- Integrating Faith and Profession, The Book of First Thessalonians, The Relation of Scriptures and Family Relations and the Old Testament. Channel 8 changes to Channel 23 Changes in programming at Time-Warner Cable have moved the Command Information Cable TV from Channel 8 to Channel 23. Girl Scouts seek donations for ‘Project Linus’ The West Point Girl Scouts will be participating in "Project Linus" as blanketeers by making blankets and quilts. These blankets will be given to children in Orange County who are seriously ill, traumatized or otherwise in need. The Girl Scouts will be collecting yarn, fabric (cotton, flannel or polar fleece) and batting for quilts at the Commissary and PX. In conjunction with the O’Neill High School Students Against Destructive Decisions club, they will have a collection box in Highland Falls at the Town Hall as well. Boxes will be in place for donations through Feb. 9. February 16, National Blanket Making Day, the Scouts will gather to make and assemble the quilts and blankets from donations received. For more information, call Erica Koonmen at 446-2874. WPWC to hold fashion show The West Point Womens’ Club will host a fashion show scheduled at the Hotel Thayer Feb. 26. This is a dinner/show package and reservations are required by noon Feb. 21. Models will display examples of day wear, prom wear, evening formal wear and bridal selections. Road closure announced Williams Road from Thayer Moat to the train station will be closed to parking and through traffic all day Thursday (midnight to midnight). Access to the moat and the rail crossing will be maintained. The parking ban includes parking at the train station. All personnel should obey traffic and parking restrictions in the area. Eagle watch announced Those interested in participating in an eagle watch are invited to meet Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and/or Sunday at 1 p.m. at O’Neill High School. CWOC lock-in planned "Having Passion for Your Husband" is a topic of guest speaker Judy Rossi at the Christian Women of the Chapel winter lock-in, Jan. 25-26 from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the Cadet Chapel basement. Chamber Music Series continues The USMA Band’s Chamber Music Series will continue with a "Voice and Brass" recital given by Sgt. 1st Class Gregory Alley Sunday at 3 p.m. at the West Point Jewish Chapel. The concert is free and open to the public. Guests on the program include soprano Debbie Horne and pianist Susan Hart as well as Metropolitan Opera bass Craig Hart singing "The Trumpet Shall Sound" from Handel’s "Messiah." Due to the 100 percent vehicle and photo I.D. card inspection at Stony Lonesome and Thayer gates, those planning to attend should allow extra time. Game Show Mania at WP Club Show the world how clever you and your co-workers are. There is still room available for departments, offices, directorates, tenant units and activities to participate in "Game Show Mania" Jan. 25 starting at 7:30 p.m. A giant pasta bar and desserts are also offered. Call 938-5120 to sign up. ‘Me and My Guy’ dance for Scouts The 4th Annual "Me and My Guy" dance is Jan. 25 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the West Point Elementary School. It’s a dressy affair for West Point Girl Scouts and their special guy (dad or other adult male). For more information, call Erica Koonmen at 446-2874. ‘Ghost Hunter’ lecture announced Do you have a story that needs investigating? Perhaps local author and "Ghost Hunter" Linda Zimmerman can help. Join her at Sterling Forest State Park tonight at 7 p.m. when she discusses her investigations into the spirits of the Highlands. Zimmerman will test the area for ghosts using an electromagnetic ghost detector. This program is certain to be fun for both young and old.
