A weekly pet tip or other bit of information
from Capt. Felicia D. Langel, USMA Veterinarian 938-3817
West Nile Virus season in New York is now over. There is little to no mosquito activity due to the cold weather, so there is no significant transmission of the virus at this time. This past season, none of the birds submitted from West Point tested positive for the virus. In fact, though the virus remains in this region, it has really taken hold in the mid-Atlantic and southeastern states. It is spreading west rapidly and it is expected that West Nile Virus will reach California by next year. The Vet Clinic will not be accepting dead birds for testing until the spring.
