Brigade boxing finals tonight

The 46th installment of the Brigade Boxing Open is tonight at Christl Arena. Eleven different weight classes will battle for titles.

Admission is free and the event gets started at 7:30 p.m..

The 119-pound bout will feature two D1 Ducks. Sophomore Frank Aburto will face freshman Ray Ramos.

Last year’s Open 125-pound champion, and a 2001 National Collegiate Boxing Association All-American, F4 Frogs sophomore Fred Kim will face D4 Dukes sophomore Vernon James in the 125-pound bout.

The 132-pound event is this year’s women’s bout and will see B4 Buffaloes junior Kira Baughman in action against last year’s women’s 125-pound champion E1 Vikings’ senior Erin Searfoss.

Last year’s 147-pound champ F3 F-Troop sophomore Gill Taylortyree will mix it up with D4 Dukes sophomore Henry Chavez for the 139-pound class crown.

H4 Hogs senior Will DosSantos, a former 139- and 147-pound champion, will spar against G3 Gophers freshman Anjelo Gokool.

The 156-pound bout pits H3 Hurricanes senior John Morris against B2 Bulldogs junior Cody Brown.

Two-time Open champion Boyd Melson, a C1 Crusaders junior will defend his 165-pound title against A3 Anacondas sophomore James Paine. Melson also won the 156-pound Open title two years ago and was a 2001 NCBA National Champion at 165 pounds.

D3 Devils senior Tom Kilbride will face C1 Crusaders freshman James Watson for the 175-pound title.

The 185-pound contest pits a pair of two-time Open champs. H1 Root Hawgs senior Sam Jackson is the reigning 185-pound champ and won at 175 pounds two years ago. F3 F-Troop senior Tom Summers did the reverse as he won the 175-pound title last year and the 185-pound title two years ago.

Jackson was also a 2000 NCBA All-American at 175 pounds.

The 195-pound match features G3 Gophers sophomore Rob Greer against B3 Bandits sophomore Duane Mantle.

In heavyweight action, E4 Elvis junior Rob Horton versus D3 Devils sophomore Eric Stanbra.
