AFAP seeks teens with opinions
Teens from throughout the community are needed to participate in the Army Family Action Plan Teen Symposium scheduled Feb. 9 from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Youth Center. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. Register at Youth Services or with the installation volunteer coordinator by Monday. Call 938-8379 for details.

Mandatory pre-separation counseling
If you are a soldier transitioning from the military, it is mandatory to attend pre-separation counseling with the transition assistance program here -- a localized version of ACAP. The rule of thumb is to schedule your counseling 180 days in advance of your separation/retirement date. Pre-separation counseling is scheduled for the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 2 p.m. in bldg. 622. Call 938-5658 to schedule a date of your choice.

Girl Scouts seek donations for ‘Project Linus’
The West Point Girl Scouts will be participating in "Project Linus" as blanketeers by making blankets and quilts. These blankets will be given to children in Orange County who are seriously ill, traumatized or otherwise in need. The Girl Scouts will be collecting yarn, fabric (cotton, flannel or polar fleece) and batting for quilts at the Commissary and PX.

In conjunction with the O’Neill High School Students Against Destructive Decisions club, they will have a collection box in Highland Falls at the Town Hall as well. Boxes will be in place for donations through Feb. 9.

On February 16, National Blanket Making Day, the Scouts will gather to make and assemble the quilts and blankets from donations received. For more information, call Erica Koonmen at 446-2874.

WPWC to hold fashion show
The West Point Womens’ Club will host a fashion show scheduled at the Hotel Thayer Feb. 26. This is a dinner/show package and reservations are required by noon Feb. 21.

Models will display examples of day wear, prom wear, evening formal wear and bridal selections.

Dinner starts at 6 p.m.; the show follows at 7:30 p.m.

Chamber Music Series continues
The USMA Band’s Chamber Music Series will continue with a flute recital given by Master Sgt. Lynn Cunningham and her son, Kevin, Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the West Point Jewish Chapel. The concert is free and open to the public. Cunningham will be joined by her son on two works, exhibiting his talent on saxophone in "Les treteaux" and as a singer in Franz Schubert’s "Ihr Blumlein all." Kevin is an all-state band participant and spent the summer of 2001 studying voice at Tanglewood.

Due to the 100 percent vehicle and photo I.D. card inspection at Stony Lonesome and Thayer gates, those planning to attend should allow extra time. Creative scrapbooking classes offered
Learn how to safely preserve your memories and family history in a meaningful and beautiful way during creative scrapbooking classes at the multi-crafts shop, bldg. 626. You’ll learn many techniques for organizing, cropping, laying out, mounting, journalizing and much more. Bring six to eight photos to the first class you attend. Instructor Tanya Waller will provide all other necessary materials to complete your first page.

Classes are scheduled at 7 p.m. on the following days: Wed., Feb. 16 and 20, March 6 and 20 and April 3 and 17. You can start at anytime. Call 938-4812 for more information or to pre-register.

Cultural adaptation class
ACS offers free support classes for foreign-born spouses that includes English as a second language, joining Army life and culture, educational resources and other helpful adjustment skills. Classes are the second and fourth Thursdays of each month from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. For more info., call 938-2519.

Spring break animal boarding
Spring break will be here before you know it. Plan ahead and make reservations for your dog or cat to be cared for at Morgan Farm kennels while you are away. Call 938-3926.

Marriage renewal workshop/dance
Most Holy Trinity is sponsoring a marriage renewal workshop/dinner dance Feb. 9 at 1 p.m. Daycare will be provided at the CDC during the workshop. Dinner and dance will be held at the Hotel Thayer. Registration is on-going after all Masses or you can call 446-2475 for price information or reservations.

Evangelist to speak at Cadet Chapel
Dr. Luis Palau, world-reknowned evangelist, will speak at the Cadet Chapel Sunday starting at 10:30 a.m. Sometimes called "The Billy Graham of South America," Palau has spoken to hundreds of millions of people in 104 nations through radio and television broadcasts, and face-to-face to 14 million people in 69 nations over the past 30 years. He has also authored 44 books and booklets in English and Spanish. Everyone is invited to attend. Last ice skating lesson

Student leadership groups
Keystone Club meetings are held alternating Thrusdays at 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 8:30 a.m. Torch Club (middle school leadership group) meetings are Fridays at 4:30 p.m. All meeetings take place in bldg. 500. Call 938-8379 for more information.

Youth of the Year competition
The annual Youth of the Year competition runs from Feb. 15 through March 15. Interested teens should call Jim Bennett at 938-8379.

Quilting classes offered
Learn to make a quilt at classes held at the Arts and Crafts center. The Americana-style wall hanging features a West Point cadet, a flag and a star block. Classes start Feb. 20 for four consecutive Wednesdays from 6 to 8:30 p.m. For more information, call 938-4812.

Family Night buffet
Macaroni the Clown will be at the family night buffet Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the West Point Club. Bring the whole family for a great meal and a fun, family time. Call 938-5120 for reservations.

Valentine Sunday brunch
The West Point Club will hold a special Sunday brunch Feb. 10 in honor of Valentine’s Day. Ladies will get a free rose and brunch for half price. Seating will be at 10 a.m. and noon and the club now offers valet parking. Call 938-5120 for reservations.

CWOC program announced
The Christian Women of the Chapel is planning a special program "Tea, Talent and Testimonies," Feb. 13 from 8:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the Post Chapel. All community ladies are invited to attend and share the abilities and stories of the participants. For more information, call 446-3578.

New program coming to YS
March Madness -- Teen Summer Job Prep Program will be held Mondays in March at 4 p.m. at Youth Services . There is no cost to participate but pre-registration is required. Call Jim Bennett at 938-8379 to sign up or for more information.

Coloring contest underway
In celebration of African-American History Month, the West Point main exchange is sponsoring a coloring contest for kids ages 4- to 12-years old. Select one of 12 pictures featuring extraordinary African-Americans in history and turn in the completed picture no later than Feb. 15. Photos are available at the PX. Judging will take place Feb.16 at 2 p.m.

All entrants receive coupons for kids merchandise sold in the main exchange. The top three winners in each category will receive AAFES gift certificates and a coupon for a free kid’s meal at Burger King.
