Fencers crush Vassar, Drew

By Cadet 2nd Class Julianna Eum
Army Fencing Team

Army fencing dominated the competition over the weekend at the Vassar College Invitational in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The women’s team went on to take a 19-8 win against Drew’s women’s team and the men’s and women’s combined to achieve a 32-22 win against the Vassar teams.

The saber weapon teams led with three undefeated fencers -- junior Julz Eum, junior JD Galindo and sophomore Gary Jones.

In epee, senior team captain Matt Keane compiled a perfect 3-0 score on the day. Junior Gennelle Lee was the foil standout with a 5-1 record.

All of these performances contributed to Army (a club team) defeating the two varsity-level teams.

The women’s team next faces Sacred Heart University in Conn., Sunday and the men take on the John Hopkins squad in Baltimore Feb. 16.
