Diver Sarah Get and classmate long-distance freestyler Shannon Kelley were the only winners for the Black Knights Saturday afternoon as they fell to American University, 151-122, at the Reeves Aquatic Center.
Coming off a pair of tough meets against Yale and Columbia, Get regained her composure and collected two wins for the Black Knights. The freshman from Melbourne, Fla., scored a 245.40 on the 1-meter and a 231.38 off the 3-meter.
Freshman Kasey Kinney, who has not competed in the past three meets, earned a third-place finish in 3-meter competition (216.53) and a second-place showing off the 1-meter board (184.79). It was a good performance for Kinney, considering she had not placed above the three-spot all season.
"American has a great team and its lineup is tough to overcome," said Army head coach John O’Neill. "I was pleased with our performance on the diving boards, especially with the effort that Kasey (Kinney) gave us. It was a very competitive meet and I think we have the makings of a serious rivalry in the Patriot League."
The other bright spot for Army was the win recorded by Kelley in the 1650-meter freestyle. Not only did she take the victory, but she also took 12 seconds off her previous time of 18:18.67.
The Army women will compete one last time at Crandall Pool in a meet against Dartmouth College Saturday at noon. It will be the final home meet for seniors Michelle Bridegroom and Hope Wilkie.
