Army sophomore women’s basketball player Katie Macfarlane was named the Patriot League’s "Player of the Week" for the fourth time this season Monday.
Macfarlane averaged 22.0 ppg. and 11.0 rpg. as Army defeated defending Patriot League Champion Holy Cross 68-67 and fell to Navy 71-60. The Clarence, N.Y., native lead all players in points and rebounds in both games. She scored 22 points and just missed a double-double, pulling down nine rebounds, against the Crusaders. Macfarlane completed her league-leading 11th double-double of the season and 18th of her career with her 22 points and 13 boards against the Midshipmen. Macfarlane’s 20-point performances marked the fifth and sixth times this season that she has scored 20 or more points in a game.
Macfarlane hit on 55.5 percent of her shots last week. The team’s free throw leader also shot 72.2 percent from the charity stripe. At Navy, Macfarlane was a perfect six-for-six from the line. Currently Macfarlane is ranked 12th in the on Army’s all-time career list with 195 free throws made.
The forward standout’s 22 points against Navy pushed her into third place all-time, in scoring for Army sophomores, at 347 points, passing Pat Walter (337) and Pam Pearson (332).
This season Macfarlane is averaging 18.3 ppg., third in the Patriot League, and leads the league at 10.4 rpg. Macfarlane sits in second place in scoring after six league games at 18.7 ppg. In rebounding, Macfarlane is averaging 8.7 rpg. in league play and ranks third.
Macfarlane was previously named Patriot League "Player of the Week" three times -- Nov. 26, Dec. 10 and Dec. 17. She is the only league player to receive the honor four times this season.
The Black Knights open the second half of Patriot League play at Lehigh Saturday.
