Senior gymnastics team captain Troy Pazcoguin prepares for the start of one of his routines.

Senior Troy Pazcoguin took the bronze medal on vault and was fifth on floor exercise in highlighting Army’s performance during the individual finals of the Rocky Mountain Gymnastics Open Saturday afternoon.

Pazcoguin was one of three Black Knights to qualify for the individual finals after finishing among the top eight in Jan. 25’s preliminary round. Posting a 9.15 on vault in finishing seventh in his qualifying round, Pazcoguin bettered that mark by scoring a season high 9.3 to jump four places in the finals while finishing just 25/100s of a point shy of second place. The Army team captain, who at one point last year ranked first on vault, finished over two points behind winner Jock Stevens of Oklahoma

Pazcoguin edged junior teammate Matt Eckerman 8.475 to 8.450 for fifth place on floor exercise, while junior Dustin Greenhill took eighth on parallel bars.

The Black Knights (1-0), in the midst of a five-meet road trip, return to action when they visit Temple tonight for their second dual meet of the season.
