Where to file your federal tax return

Individuals (not businesses) that live in any county except Nassau, Rockland, Suffolk and Westchester or the New York City area, (Form 1040) should be sent to the IRS, Holtsville, N.Y., 00501-0002. This address is valid for taxpayers expecting a refund.

For individuals that live in any county except those listed above, that are filing Form 1040 and need to make a payment, the address is IRS, Holtsville, N.Y., 00501-0102. Note the difference in the zip code.

Live telephone assistance

Call 1-800-829-1030 (Hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Friday). During the tax-filing season, the IRS will include a 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday service.

Call 1-800-829-4059 (TDD). Hours of operation are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday. During the tax filing season, the IRS will include a 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday service.
