IRS help for those affected by 9-11

The attacks at the Pentagon and World Trade Center have affected all of us. Taxes shouldn’t add to those worries. So the IRS has set up a special toll-free telephone number for people who may have trouble filing or paying their taxes because of the tragedies on September 11.

If you feel that you were affected -- directly or indirectly -- the IRS encourages you to call with any tax question and they promise they’ll cut through the red tape and promptly handle your questions. Call 1-866-562-5227, Monday through Friday: in English -- 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. local time; in Spanish -- 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. local time.
