Sophomore wide receiver Anthony Miller, of Temple Hills, Md., died Feb. 1 at 5:30 p.m. at West Point’s Keller Army Community Hospital.

He was admitted the day before with an undetermined illness. The cause of death has not been determined.

"We are devastated by the loss of Anthony," second-year Army football coach Todd Berry said in a prepared statement, "His spirit epitomized the ideals of West Point and the Army football team...

"I feel especially blessed to have had the opportunity to share my life with him. We will hold him dear to our hearts and we will never forget him. Well Done, Anthony."

Miller, a member of Berry’s abbreviated first recruiting class, was one of only four freshmen to letter during Berry’s first year as the Black Knights head coach.

"Throughout his tenure at the Military Academy, Cadet Miller displayed an exemplary pride in his country and dedication to service in its defense," said Superintendent Lt. Gen. William J. Lennox, Jr. "He was an enthusiastic cadet who was a true friend to those who knew him.

"Cadet Miller was a member of the Army football and indoor track teams. His belief in the ideals of the Corps and its motto of Duty, Honor, Country were hallmarks of his performance.

"I wish to extend to the family of the late Cadet Miller the sincere and profound sympathy of all the officers, cadets and other members of this command.

"His death will be mourned by all who have known him," Lennox added.

A Taps Vigil was held Monday night by the Corps of Cadets for Miller. Tuesday he was eulogized in a public memorial at the Cadet Chapel.

Today a memorial service will be held at From the Heart Ministry, 4207 Norcross Street, Temple Hills, Md. 20748, (301) 899-9411.

The viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m. with the service to follow from 11 to noon. The burial will immediately follow at Harmony Cemetery.

Donations in Miller’s memory can be sent to his mother, Veronica Miller, 8901 91st Place, Lanham, Md. 20706.
