Next phase of switch upgrade outlined

There will be a six-hour outage of the entire 938-xxxx phone system starting at 6 p.m. Feb. 15. The purpose of this outage is to transfer the entire telephone system to its new power system. For safety reasons, the system must be turned off before electricians can connect the new cables.

All 983-xxxx phones will be non-functional during this time. With the exception of a few phones in Stony 1 housing, residential and 446-xxxx lines will not be affected. Those residents in Stony 1 that will be impacted will be notified by the DOIM telephone office.

With the exception of the 938-xxxx phone system, E911 will not be affected either. Residents should continue to call 911 to report all emergencies.

This is the last step in the $4 million, year-long multi-phase telephone switch upgrade. Questions should be directed to 938-7309.
