Head Army gymnastics coach Doug Van Everen mixed up his lineup and came away with a 193.85-188.25 victory over host Southern Connecticut at James Moore Fieldhouse in New Haven, Conn., Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Ian Welch set the pace for the Black Knights tying for first on vault and taking second on pommel horse.

Welch captured his first collegiate meet tying with Southern Connecticut’s Scot O’Cain for the top spot with 8.65s. Welch turned in that same mark, Army’s highest of the meet, in a second-place finish on floor exercise.

Junior Dustin Greenhill, who enjoyed a strong showing at Temple Feb. 1, topped the field with his 8.5 on parallel bars.

The Owls captured four of the six individual events and tied the other, but the Black Knights outpointed their hosts in the team scoring on floor, pommel horse, parallel bars and horizontal bar.

"After our meet with Temple (Feb. 1), I needed to rest our top guys and the rest of the team rose to the occasion," said VanEveren. "It was a great opportunity to give the others a chance to compete."

The Black Knights return to dual action Thursday at Gross Center starting at 6 p.m.
