Freshman Lyndsey Nott and senior Jaclyn Ott came off the bench to provide the Black Knights’ women’s tennis team with a pair of straight-set victories in Army’s 6-1 triumph over the Stony Brook Sea Wolves, Sunday afternoon at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center here.

With a number of Army regulars receiving a rest, Army head coach Paul Peck inserted Ott and Nott into the No. 5 and 6 spots, respectively, and promoted freshmen Maelynn Bernosky and Marissa Limsiaco to the No. 2 and 3 positions.

The strategy paid off as all four Black Knights left the court victorious.

Nott, competing for the first time in dual-match competition, was the first Black Knight to complete their match defeating Deanna Ghozati 6-0, 6-2. Ott followed right behind her, beating Hana Musategovic 6-0, 6-1. With her win at No. 5 singles, Ott evened her record at 8-8 and is currently maintaining a solid five-match winning streak.

Bernosky and Limsiaco, who were playing three spots ahead of where they traditionally play in the lineup, came through with important victories as well. The rookie Limsiaco played for the first time at No. 2 singles, but looked like a veteran as she put away Patricia Gomez in straight-sets 6-2, 6-0. Her doubles teammate Bernosky won at No. 3, outlasting Karen Hansen in a three-set tiebreak match 6-4, 6-7 (3), (10-8).

Competing as the No. 2 doubles team, Bernosky and Limsiaco defeated Gomez and Georgia Bushell 8-3. That win was the freshmen’s 21st victory together and they are now just one win away from setting a new academy record for most wins by a doubles team in a season.

Army hits the road today for a contest versus the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers. The team will be back at Lichtenberg Sunday morning for a doubleheader against Long Island and Connecticut.
