DHPW Advisories
Merritt Road excavation
There will be excavation work on Merritt Road in the vicinity of the Buckner
Hill Road intersection, Monday and Tuesday. The excavation is for installation
of a wet tap to the main water line in support of the Guest House new fire
suppression system. Traffic will be controlled by a flagman. Personnel should
expect delays in the area.
Closure of Derussey
Loop
Derussey Loop, in the vicinity of the Cadet Chapel, will be closed to parking
and all traffic beginning Sunday afternoon and lasting through the close of
business April 19. This closure will allow the installation of a water valve by
DHPW personnel. Approximately 25 parking spaces in the area will be eliminated.
Personnel should obey all signs and barricades.
Power outage
There will be a power outage April 22, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Stony
Lonesome--Commissary area. The outage will run for approximately 30 minutes and
affect the following: Stony I Housing, Stony II Housing, PX, Class 6 Store,
Commissary, Child Development Center, Stony Water Plant and Cell Tower. There
will be a 4 hour outage beginning at the same time affecting the PX, Commissary,
and Class 6 Store. The outage is part of construction of the New Fire Station.
Heating systems
shutdown
Heating systems will be shutdown April 29. DHPW will begin shutdowns in public
buildings Monday. Community members are reminded that it normally takes five to
seven days to fully shutdown the heat. Systems shutdown prior to that date will
not be recharged without the permission of the Chief, Utilities and Facilities
Division.
Herbicide spraying
As part of their regular maintenance schedule throughout the spring and summer, Pestmasters,
the DHPW pest control contractor, will be spraying a mild herbicide on selected
areas of post, including the housing areas. The herbicide, which is used for
weed control, is similar to the brand name "Round-Up" which is
available over-the-counter. For more information, contact DHPW Customer
Relations, 938-5189.
