Heightened security will mean changes to Spring Yard Sale

Submitted by the Office of the Garrison Commander

The U.S. Military Academy will hold its Spring Yard Sale April 20, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. West Point sponsors this event annually.

Yard sales are only authorized at designated times and not at any other times throughout the year.

Those wishing to participate in the sale must be a housing resident and conduct the sale in the housing areas. Those living in Farmhouses, BOQ and Central Apartments must make arrangements to share yards with housing area residents. The sale of perishables of any kind is not authorized.

The following are some situations shoppers will encounter that could cause traffic delays and congestion:

- All non-DoD decal vehicles will be stopped and searched at the entry points to the installation.

- Only DoD decals will be allowed through Washington Gate.

- Mills Road by Michie Stadium is closed due to construction.

There will be traffic and parking congestion in all areas adjacent to housing areas. West Point officials suggest shoppers park in large, remote parking lots and walk to housing areas.

Due to heightened security measures there will be a large soldier presence throughout post and in the housing areas. Soldiers will also guard the cadet areas to prevent access by shoppers.
