Meet the school board candidates

Submitted by the West Point School Board

Community members will have the opportunity to meet the candidates during Tuesday’s School Board Meeting, 7 p.m., in the Music Room of Building 705-A in the West Point Elementary School.

All parents of students enrolled at the West Point Schools are eligible to vote May 8. School Board Elections will take place at the WPES from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The following individuals will be running for the three vacant school board seats:

MICHAEL BAUMEISTER
"I desire to be part of the West Point Schools Board in order to better participate in the educational process of my and other military children at West Point. I also desire to provide sound judgment when asked, get the chance to meet others, and provide any assistance necessary in the development of new plans, budget and resources."

ALBERT A. LAHOOD
"I am interested in becoming a School Board Member because I think it is a unique opportunity to positively impact our community and our children. I believe my background in economic geography may be of assistance to the superintendent and if nothing else I am a willing and able body... ."

ALDON PAGIO
"I am a strong believer of parental involvement in their child’s education. I also believe that our teachers play a major role in all aspects of child development. As a board member I will help to bring parents, educators and the DoD school system together for the common goal of molding and guiding our children for success.

"... I realize that I have the responsibility of ensuring that the parent’s voice is heard. ... Our children deserve a quality education, a safe and respectable institution, and a learning environment that is conducive to all styles of learning."

MELISA PHILLIPS
"My husband and I feel that it is a true privilege to live in the West Point community and have our children attend the West Point schools. I would like the opportunity to "give back" by serving as a member of the board.

"I believe my formal training in both education and counseling will help me hear and understand parents, administrators, and educators alike.

"I also think my experience in the military will help me to quickly learn what I need to know about the DDESS system in order to be a contributing member of the board. My education and experiences make me uniquely suited to serve on the board."
