Since November, more than 19,000 teams registered and entered the Internet-based contest. Teams across the nation designed virtual bridges using a high-tech, award-winning, computer-aided design software package called the West Point Bridge Designer, featuring three-dimensional animation that allows students to visualize structural behavior by providing a simulated truckload test over the structure. Structures and costs were tested and judged continuously.
The contest is endorsed and sponsored by the American Society of Civil Engineers, which celebrates its 150th anniversary this year. For more information, please contact Cathy Bale at ic7097@usma.edu, visit the contest Web site at www.usma.edu/bridgecontest or call 845-938-2548.
