DHPW Advisories
Prohibition on wildlife
feeding
The Garrison Commander has instituted a prohibition on feeding wildlife in the
USMA Cantonment Area that went into effect April 2.
Residents, community members and visitors are prohibited from feeding any wildlife with the exception of birds (through birdfeeders and suet) and official wildlife control efforts.
This is an effort to reduce the impact of the whitetail deer in the USMA housing areas. Artificial feeding of wildlife can lead to an increased damage to vegetation and human structures and the increased risk of disease transmitted to humans and domestic animals, DHPW officials said.
Herbicide spraying
As part of their regular maintenance schedule throughout the spring and summer, Pestmasters,
the DHPW pest control contractor, will be spraying a mild herbicide on selected
areas of post, including the housing areas. The herbicide, which is used for
weed control, is similar to the brand name "Round-Up" which is
available over-the-counter. For more information, contact DHPW Customer
Relations, 938-5189.
Spring Clean-Up Note
DHPW Grounds workers will pick up bagged leaves from housing areas on Monday,
Wednesday, and Fridays throughout the spring clean up season. The pick-ups will
begin immediately.
All leaves must be bagged in clear, biodegradable bags available at the Self Help Center. Bags should be placed at curb but not in storm drain. During Spring Clean-up the leaf vacuum truck will be used only on special requests.
