Pets and people are invited to West Point’s second annual Pet Fair May 5.
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. the whole family is invited out to the field next to the PX shoppette to enjoy contests, pet grooming demonstrations, pony rides and many other fun things.
Sheila Schwartz, Pet Fair Coordinator, said the fair is free and open to the public, and vendors from Mike’s Sub Shop will be on hand with hot dogs, soft drinks, chips and more.
"We will have donations from sponsors such as Science Diet and Paws and Claws, and our contests will include things like Best Pet Trick, Best Pet/Owner Lookalike, and a pet singing contest.
"We began hosting the Pet Fair to raise awareness of the Veterinary Clinic here, and to help educate our clients on basic pet care," she said.
She added that last year more than 100 people came to enjoy the day with their families and pets.
"We are not only trying to make this an animal/pet event," she concluded, "we are trying to make this an event the whole family can enjoy by providing things for everyone."
May 5 marks the beginning of National Pet Week, a time dedicated to, "promoting responsible pet ownership, communicating the value of pets to people and people to pets and to increase public awareness of the role, value and contribution to society of working companion animals."
