Sophomore Sara Fields ended the day on a high note for Army, resetting her own academy record in the discus with a throw of 153’11.5". Fields became a dual winner for the second week in a row after also taking first place in the shot put (44’2.75").
The Black Knights built a sizable advantage early in the meet with outstanding performances in the field. Army grabbed its largest lead after the second running event of the afternoon. Emily Perez had a great exchange with Elise Eubanks in the 4x100-meter relay. Perez, running on the anchor, pulled just in front after receiving the baton and blasted down the final straightaway for the Army victory as the Black Knights stretched their lead to 37-26.
The Midshipmen pulled closer over the next few events, receiving dominating efforts in the 400m and 800m races. The Black Knights would not strike again until the 100m dash. Freshman Tiffany Martin and junior Kim Allen executed a one-two sweep on the field backed by personal records. Martin broke the tape after a clip of 12.18, while Allen split a career best 12.32.
Martin landed in the academy record books against the Mids with an impressive rookie display. While her time in the 100m was the fifth-fastest mark in academy history, she also recorded the fourth-best long jump in Army history with a winning leap of 19’4.25".
Army had three other individual winners on the day as junior Ashley Albritton took the top spot in the hammer (155’5"), senior Susan Warnick coasted to victory in the javelin (134’5") and sophomore Alexis Seefeldt established a new academy record en route to winning the steeplechase (11:26.90).
