Lots of activities available for new families

Welcome to the community. West Point’s Directorate of Community and Family Activities offers the latest information on events, upcoming menus and more at the official DCFA Web site: www.usma.edu/dcfa. The following are brief descriptions of our available services and activities:

Recreation

Water sports, childcare programs and activities, veterinary services, banquet facilities, you name it, the U.S. Military Academy is ready to offer it. Simply visit the official DCFA Web site for a full listing of all the agencies involved in making YOUR West Point experience a great one.


Arts & Crafts Shop
(Bldg. 648, 938-4812) -- Woodworking facilities, pottery wheels, matting and framing; classes include stained glass, creative scrapbooking and rubberstamping. Shop staff can arrange a special class for your group.

Auto Crafts Shop (Bldg. 648, 938-2074) -- Classes to teach you how to service your car; automatic lifts; New York State car inspections.

Bowling Center (Bldg. 622, 938-2140) -- 10-lane, air-conditioned facility with snack bar, automatic scorers, pinsetters and bumpers for the kids. A great place to have a party! Leagues, open bowling or exciting Galactic Bowling.

Community Recreation Division Admin. (Located at ITR) -- Purchase swim passes, hunting and fishing licenses; make camping reservations; pay for quarters-cleaning services.

Equipment Checkout Center (Located at Round Pond) -- Rent mountain bikes, surf bikes, canoes, boats, windsurf boards; tents, cookers; other outdoor and recreation equipment. Fill propane gas tanks here.

Fitness Center (Bldg. 683, 938-6490) -- Open weekdays, 0530-2000; Saturdays, 0800-1300. Full range of state-of-the-art fitness equipment, free weights, cardiovascular machines. Classes in aerobics, Jazzercise, yoga, cardio-kickboxing. Showers and lockers.

Five Star Inn (Bldgs. 2113 & 785, 446-1028) -- USMA’s Army Lodging Facility: family rooms and suites in building 2113, family rooms and efficiencies in building 785. The front desk (2113) open 24 hours a day.

Club Barbershop (938-2749) -- Haircuts weekdays, 0800-1600, either by appointment or walk in.

West Point Post Library (Bldg. 622, 938-2974) -- Large collection of fiction and nonfiction books, paperback book exchange, audio cassettes, books on tape, copy machines and computer access. Story Hour for preschoolers in the winter, Summer Reading Program.

Golf Course (Rt. 218, 938-2435) -- Open April-November; 18 holes, 18-station driving range with lasered-target holes. Snack bar open for lunch.

Ice Skating (Tate Rink, Holleder Center) -- Recreational skating October to March; times vary according to USMA varsity, intramural and Youth Services hockey schedules. Call the information tape (938-2991) or log onto the DCFA Web site (www.usma.edu/dcfa) for schedules.

ITR (Bldg. 695, 938-3601) -- Information and brochures for just about any destination; day trips to NYC Broadway shows, museums and tourist attractions; longer trips to places like Nova Scotia and New England; luxury condo rentals for an unbelievably low price. Discount tickets for movies or amusement parks.

Morgan Farm Stables and Kennel (Bldg. 2026 behind O’Neill H.S., 938-3926) Trail rides, trail guides by reservation, riding camps, horse boarding at reasonable rates. Kennel has large dog runs and modern climate-control system.

Delafield Pond (Delafield Rd., 938-5139) -- Open every day, Memorial Day through Labor Day, noon - 7 p.m.

Round Pond (Rt. 293, 938-2503) -- Open weekends & holidays, Memorial Day-Mid June; 7 days/week, Mid June-Labor Day. Campsites, nature trail, hiking, fishing, windsurfing, picnicking. Playground, volleyball, basketball.

Lake Frederick (Highland Mills, 938-4455) -- Spring-fed lake; 10 cabins, camping, beach, grills. Cadet training, Boy Scout outings, camping, organizational day picnics.
