The West Point Rangers traveled to Blind Brook, Conn. Sunday and thumped the Blind Brook Warriors 12-1 behind the six-hit pitching of Wayne Schepens and the explosive bats of Rangers Mike Kwinn, Julio Fernandez, Dan McCarthy, Marty Martino and Eli Nieves.

Schepens went the distance striking out 10 batters, while walking only four. The only run the Warriors managed off the funky right-hander on the day was on a leadoff double that was followed by two consecutive wild pitches.

Kwinn led the way at the plate for West Point going 3-for-4 with two RBIs, a run scored and a stolen base.

Fernandez was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and a trio of thefts on the base paths.

McCarthy went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, two runs scored and three stolen bases, as well.

Martino was 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Nieves was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, with two steals out of three attempts.

The Rangers return home Sunday with a 9 a.m. contest against the two-time defending champion Carmel Cardinals at Doubleday Field.

First baseman Mike Kwinn’s (above left) three hits and two RBIs and pitcher Wayne Schepens’ (above right) six-hitter helped the Rangers explode past Blind Brook, 12-1, Sunday.
