WEST POINT, N.Y. -- For the second week in a row, both the Patriot League and the Army Athletic Association recognized senior co-captain Katie Macfarlane for her outstanding play at the Third Annual North Star Invitational hosted by Alaska Fairbanks. Macfarlane earns her second "Player of the Week" accolade by the Patriot League selection committee, as well as back-to-back nods as the AAA "Athlete of the Week."
The 6-0 forward from Clarence, N.Y., had a phenomenal weekend at the North Star Invitational, tallying 38 points and 27 rebounds in two games in leading the Black Knights to the tournament title. In the Nov. 28 semifinal victory over Portland State, Macfarlane pulled down a tournament-record 19 rebounds to go along with 23 points for her first "double-double" of the season. Then in the championship game against the host Nanooks, she paced the Black Knights with 15 points and eight rebounds, helping Army to a 77-52 win and the tournament crown. For her outstanding efforts, Macfarlane was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
Also of note, Macfarlane became Army’s all-time rebounding leader, needing only five rebounds coming into the Portland State game to eclipse Pam Pearson’s record of 881 set back in 1985. In consecutive weekends, Macfarlane staked her claim as Army’s most prolific scorer and rebounder in the 26-year history of the program.
Macfarlane’s efforts also helped her climb the Patriot League scoring and rebounding charts. She is now sixth all-time in the conference in rebounding with 904 caroms and 10th all-time in scoring with 1,497 points.
