West Point duo developing military academies in Iraq and Afghanistan
Col. George B. Forsythe, West Point’s assistant dean for education and Lt. Col. Casey Neff, special assistant to the commandant here for systems and planning, recently spent more than eight weeks in the Middle East to develop the plans to start academies in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Chung leading Corps into new year
Making a big jump is nothing new to Cadet 1st Class Grace Chung, who has performed with the Cadet Sport Parachute Team for the last three years. But her biggest leap so far was when the academy named her the new first captain of the Corps of Cadets.  

Iraq attack kills 1997 grad 
Capt. Eric T. Paliwoda, a U.S. Military Academy 1997 graduate, died Jan. 2 in Balad, Iraq. Paliwoda, a native of Hartford, Conn., was commander of Company B, 4th Engineer Battalion, of the Fort Carson-based 3rd Brigade Combat Team. and part of the 4th Infantry Division. His company has been attached to the 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry since June.

Army releases newsletter outlining new installation design standards
A new Web-based newsletter went online Dec. 8 to help explain issues related to Army Installation Design Standards.   

Cadet parachute team earns 19 medals
The cadet parachute team brought home 19 medals from the Collegiate National Parachuting Championships held at the Florida Skydiving Center in Lake Wales, Fla. from Dec. 28-31. Junior Kevin Krupski was named the overall 2003 National Collegiate Parachuting Champion.

Hockey rolls past St. Clair, Riley wins 300th
Freshman Michael Picone’s first career goal proved to be the game-winner and junior Chad Mayfield assisted on all three of Army’s goals to lead the Black Knights to a 3-1 victory over visiting St. Clair Saturday night in front of 2,028 spectators at Tate Rink. Head coach Rob Riley picked up his 300th career win behind the bench as Army snapped St. Clair’s 11-game win streak.
