Put your public speaking skills to good use

By Deb DeGraw
public affairs specialist

The West Point Speakers Bureau is looking for a few good men and women.

If you consider yourself a subject-matter expert, have a great hobby, avocation or talent, or just like to talk and meet new people, the Speakers Bureau wants your name.

The bureau, which is run by the USMA Public Affairs Office, depends on the continued support of the military and civilian staff and faculty stationed at West Point to speak at a variety of events in the local area. Volunteers gain public speaking experience as well as assist in developing public understanding of USMA and a wider appreciation of the academy’s contributions to the Army and nation.

The Speakers Bureau supports organizations like the Girl and Boy Scouts, parents’ clubs, Lions Club, chambers of commerce and senior citizens’ groups. Speakers are asked to address audiences on a variety of subjects including athletics, academics, leadership, history, history of West Point, as well as general patriotic themes. In addition, the Speakers Bureau supports veterans groups for both national holidays and memorial services. Prepared speeches are available for some events.

To sign up, or for more information, call the Public Affairs Office at 938-3614.
