USMA PROFESSOR EARNS ENGINEER OF THE YEAR AWARD – Feb. 19, 2008

 

      WEST POINT, N.Y. -- Dr. Wenli Huang, of the U.S. Military Academy’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, was presented the New York Section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc., “Engineer of the Year Award” on Saturday, Feb., 9.

       Huang’s citation reads:  “In recognition of her outstanding technical and service contributions to the engineering profession and promotion of women in the science and technology disciplines.”

       Over the past 12 years, Huang has made significant contributions to blue-green laser technology – this is key to increasing the density of information storage on optical disks.

This technology is currently available under the trade name “Blu-ray” which she has helped develop.

       Huang has also worked as a Northeast Regional Coordinator for the IEEE serving 43,000 members.

       The IEEE is a non-profit organization and is the world’s leading professional association for the advancement of technology.
