CADET TRIO EARN EAST-WEST FELLOWSHIPS April 28, 2008

 

            WEST POINT, N.Y. WEST POINT, N.Y. – Senior cadets Mike Duda, Cole Livieratos and Nicholas Hanauer were named East-West Fellows for the 2008-2009 academic year, which will allow them to pursue masters degrees at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa beginning Aug. 11, 2008.

     They are the 34th, 35th and 36th cadets to earn East-West fellowships since the academy began competing in 1991.

    Duda and Livieratos were named March 28. Hanauer was named April 18.

     Duda, 21, of Manassas, Va., will pursue a master’s in Political Science.  The Russian major will serve in the Aviation branch after post-graduate schooling.

     Livieratos, 22, of Columbia, Md., will work toward a master’s in Asian Studies.  The Human Geography and Foreign Area Studies: East Asia double major will ser ve in the Armor branch after he completes his master’s work.

     Nicholas Hanauer , 22, of Corvallis, Ore., and a future Military Intelligen ce officer said he will serve as an Armor officer for his first four years. His major here is Area Studies: East Asia.  Hanauer will study East Asia and the Chinese lan guage at UHM.

     According to the Center’s Web site it “is an education and research organization established by the U.S. Congress in 1960 to strengthen relations and understanding among the peoples and nations of Asia, the Pacific and the United States.”
