WEST POINT TO HOST NYS SCIENCE OLYMPIAD FINALS – March 13, 2009
The Science Olympiad is a series of interscholastic competitions developed to stimulate student interest in the sciences. Approximately 700 students representing 50 high school teams from New York will participate. Several local teams that will be represented include Goshen High School, Spackenkill, Roy C. Ketcham and John Jay-Fishkill.
A couple events of interest happening on Saturday March 21 include the Egg-O-Naut at North Athletic Field and the Sumobots at Gillis Field House. The Egg-O-Naut is a competition where teams construct rockets to carry large eggs into the air for as long as possible and then have them land without breaking the egg. In the Sumobots event, competing robots that were constructed prior to the competition try to force their opponent’s robots from a defined area.
The top two teams will move on to compete in the National Competition scheduled for May 15-16 at Augusta State University, Augusta, Ga.
Attendees should enter through Thayer or Stony Lonesome gates. Valid identification will be required upon entering academy grounds and all vehicles are subject to search.
