CIVIL ENGINEERING COMPETITION CHALLENGES STUDENTS – April 15, 2008

WEST POINT, N.Y. -- The New York American Society of Civil Engineers in conjunction with the academy’s Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering will host a student conference here on Friday and Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. each day.

       Approximately 220 students representing 11 other Northeast area colleges will participate in the competition.  This year, Clarkson University; Cornell; ETS (Canada); Hudson Valley Community College; Nassau Community College; Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; Rochester Institute of Technology; University of Buffalo; University of Canton;  New York Institute of Technology and Syracuse will take part.

        Some of the activities scheduled for Friday include:  Steel and Spaghetti Bridge Design competitions at Gillis Field House; and Saturday features Concrete Canoe events at Long Pond.  For more information, please log on to www.nyasce2008.com.
